Sonya Smoak, O.D., FAAO

Dr. Sonya Smoak is a consultative optometrist and Center Director at Southeast Eye Specialists, serving patients in Knoxville, Maryville, and Newport, Tennessee. She specializes in ocular disease management and the coordination of pre-operative and post-operative care for surgical patients.

As Director of the Knoxville center, Dr. Smoak plays a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, coordinated eye care alongside ophthalmologists and surgical teams. Her clinical focus includes the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and anterior segment disorders, ensuring patients receive comprehensive, continuous care throughout their treatment journey.

Dr. Smoak earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry and has more than 20 years of clinical experience providing advanced optometric care. During her training, she received multiple honors, including the Georgia Optometric Association’s Presidential Citation for Student Leadership and membership in the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and is board-certified through the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Smoak is also an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians.
