A native of Binghamton, New York, Dr. Thompson earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Syracuse University, where she was also a Division I student-athlete competing in cross country and track and field. She later conducted research at the University of Colorado before pursuing her optometric training.
 
Dr. Thompson received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in 2016, graduating as valedictorian of her class. During her training, she served as a teaching assistant in clinical skills and optics labs, worked as a tutor, and contributed to the admissions department.
