Dr. Karen Shelton is a board-certified ophthalmologist and cataract and glaucoma surgeon at Southeast Eye Specialists, providing advanced medical and surgical eye care. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, and other complex eye conditions, with a focus on preserving vision and improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Shelton joined Southeast Eye Specialists in 2020 and brings more than 20 years of ophthalmology experience. Originally from Washington, D.C., she earned her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Howard University before pursuing her medical career in ophthalmology.
Primarily focused on glaucoma and cataract surgery, Dr. Shelton has extensive experience performing advanced glaucoma procedures, including trabeculectomies, Ahmed valves, Baerveldt aqueous drainage devices, and iStent procedures. She also has experience with Cypass stents prior to their discontinuation.
In addition to glaucoma care, Dr. Shelton performs advanced cataract surgery using the LenSx femtosecond laser, as well as premium intraocular lens (IOL) technologies, including multifocal, accommodating, and toric lenses. These advanced techniques allow her to deliver highly personalized surgical outcomes tailored to each patient’s vision goals.
