Physician Bio:

Bret Fisher, M.D. is an experienced refractive cataract surgeon with VisionAmerica, serving patients throughout North Alabama in Huntsville, Cullman, and Albertville.

Dr. Fisher has performed more than 50,000 cataract and LASIK procedures. He helped pioneer technologies used today to deliver glasses-free vision and was among the first surgeons in the country to perform femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery.

Dr. Fisher specializes in refractive cataract surgery with advanced technology intraocular lenses, femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery, LASIK and refractive surgery, MIGS and glaucoma laser procedures, and general medical and surgical ophthalmology.

A native of Winter Park, Florida, Dr. Fisher graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and received his medical degree with honors from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in general medicine at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and trained in ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Fisher is the recipient of the John J. Skowron, M.D. Distinguished Professorship at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He is also a contributing author of The Wills Eye Manual and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and clinical research studies.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Fisher is committed to expanding access to eye care. He serves as a volunteer physician with EyeCare America and is the founder of the Tecate Eye Clinic in Tecate, Mexico, where he has performed cataract and other needed eye surgeries for underserved patients.
